DESCRIPTION

The field centre is situated in the small hamlet of Heol Callwen, Glyntawe, on the Southern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The building is a conversion of the old primary school for the area. Sleeping up to 40 people the Centre is an ideal place to utilise for school and college trips. It also makes a good base for youth and adult activity breaks and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. The accommodation and facilities have been awarded a 3 star Group Accommodation grade by the Welsh Tourist Board

The building comprises of:

Ground floor; Large kitchen & dining room; Wet entrance – leading to boot store room and drying room; Dry entrance hall with public telephone; dorm rooms sleeping 4 or 6 in bunk beds (28 beds in total); toilet & shower rooms; bathroom, with over bath shower; Laundry room

First Floor; Lecture/common room with T.V., D.V.D., Sky Tv, video, games cupboard, and reference library; 1 en-suite room with twin (or double bed) and a set of bunks; 1 en-suite room which can be made up as a double or twin to suite your requirements; 1 twin room; fully self contained apartment which includes 2 twin bedrooms (one with wash hand basin), bathroom with shower bath, WC and wash hand basin, an open plan kitchen and sitting room.

Free internet access is available throughout the Centre on WiFi

The centre can provide a whole host of activities and study options for visiting groups. The location lends its self well to Geography & Geology groups of all ages, with glaciated valleys, river valleys, limestone pavement, large cave complexes, waterfalls, visible faults, mountains and woodlands all within a short distance.

Almost any outdoor activity can be arranged these include, but are not limited to; caving, climbing, canoeing, gorge walking, mountain walking, mountain biking and mountain boarding. We can also provide visits to some of the historical features within the Brecon Beacons National Park such as; castles, iron-age hill forts, roman encampments, and standing stones.

HEATING / COOKING FACILITIES

The Centre has full gas central heating (gas is included in the nightly charge) which is thermostatically controlled.
The drying room has electric heaters and dehumidifier.
The ground floor kitchen is a fully fitted industrial kitchen with; dishwasher, grill, 6 burner hob, Continental Oven, Microwave, 6 slice toaster, hot plates, twin sinks, handwash sink, 2 fridges, 2 freezers, crockery & cutlery for 48 people, and a hot-water drinks machine.
The dining area has chairs and tables that will accommodate 40 people.
The kitchen in the apartment has gas cooker, microwave, sink, toaster, kettle etc.

Nearby attractions include:

Dan yr Ogof Showcaves – Discovered in 1912, it is now one of the most spectacular showcave complexes in Northern Europe.  There is also a dinosaur park, shire-horse centre and adventure playground.

Craig y Nos Castle – constructed in 1843, it was the home of the world famous opera singer Adelina Patti from 1878 until 1919.  It is now used for functions, concerts, and guided tours.

Henrhyd Falls, Coelbren – the National Park’s highest single drop falls at 90ft.  It is possible to walk behind the falls.
