LOCAL INTERESTS / ATTRACTIONS
We have a large garden to relax in and have a BBQ, or use the adjacent sports fields for outdoor fun and games. The canal towpath just outside our grounds is on many walking, cycle and mountain biking routes, including the Taff Trail and Lon Las Cymru, the cross Wales section of the National Cycle Network (Route 8). Footpaths lead to the river giving pleasant easy walks along its bank.
For Workshops, Team Building and Training Courses the Common Room converts to a training room, with Whiteboards/TV/Video/CD/DVD player available. Where extra space is required there is a large Meeting Hall (144 sq metres) for hire only 50 metres from the Bunkhouse and the adjacent Sports Fields are available for outdoor team building and training activities.
The Brecon Beacons National Park is 'Natures Theme Park', and Canal Barn is the base for a wide range of outdoor activities. Walking, cycling, mountain biking and pony trekking are the mainstream activities, but the Brecon Beacons are also a major centre for canoeing, caving, rock climbing and abseiling, and other perhaps more unusual activities such as hang gliding, gorge walking, rafting, quad biking, and paintball. The lake at Llangorse is ideal for all types of water sport, including sailing, wind surfing and water skiing.
Historic Brecon town has a range of pubs, restaurants, takeaways and entertainment to satisfy most tastes and pockets, together with a Leisure Centre, Cinema and Theatre, and all within safe easy walking distance of the Bunkhouse. As an alternative why not a take a pleasant stroll or bike ride along the Canal towpath and have lunch, or an early evening meal, at one of the excellent village pubs situated not too far along the Canal.
Locally produced food of an excellent quality is available from butchers, green grocers, and a fishmonger found at the Market Hall in the centre of Brecon, while superb Ice Cream made on the premises is available from Llanfaes Dairy, Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop. There is also a Morrison’s Supermarket about 600 metres away.
